Recycled Spirits of Iron Sculptures – Daniel Klennert

Daniel Klennerts "Spirit of Iron" Sculpture Park is a "must visit" , especially if you in that area visiting Mt Rainier National Park, and come via ASHFORD, WA. It's right there by the main highway. The sculpture park is  titled Ex-Nihilo (pronounced "Ex Nee-Hill-o" - one of several ways to pronounce it according to Webster's!) which means something created from out of nothing in Latin. Ex-Nihilo is located right alongside State Route 706 on the way to the west entrance to Mount Rainier National Park in beautiful Washington State.  Dan Klennert's sculptures, Spirits of Iron, have been displayed all across North America. "Bloodline," his larger than life-size thoroughbred created almost entirely out of horse shoes, and "Cleopatra," a life-size mare welded together from bits of scrap metal, charmed thousands at the Thoroughbred Breeders Association Equine Art Show. "Oscar" the fish eighteen feet long and twelve feet high was the catch of the day at the Salmon Days Festival in Issaquah, Washington. "The Angel...

Pomm ~ Fine Art Watercolor Artist and Oil painter

Pomm ~ Fine Art Watercolor Artist and Oil painter

A Watercolor Artist Biography: Pomm was born in Los Angeles but was raised by her French mother and grandmother and had a truly bi-cultural upbringing. Her mother, who was born in Paris, read a novel by French authoress Colette in which one of the characters was a little girl named Pomme. She loved the name, which means "apple", and took the "e" off to ensure correct pronunciation. While at college, Pomm moved to France and studied art in Aix-en-Provence. In Europe, Pomm fell in love with the Old World architecture, particularly in the southern regions of France where the sun and flowers inspired her to return again and again. When she returned to America, Pomm made a firm decision to be an artist and attended watercolor classes with Scott Moore in Laguna Beach. She found that she loved the medium. Pomm created and perfected a unique style using only translucent watercolors applied in many layers that allowed her to paint the strong colors,...

Woodhog pottery – wood fired pottery by Jody Willenborg-Cable, Whidbey Island, WA

WOODHOG POTTERY by Jody Willenborg-Cable: I have been making pots forever. I like the way they look at each stage in their formation, and I like the way they are transformed by fire. It is a joy to be able to participate in such a profoundly human activity. At times I feel a connection with our ancestors who have been handling clay from the beginning. We built a giant cave like kiln called an anagama in our back yard. The kiln is fueled by wood and would easily hold a smart car. A few hours into the three day firing It shoots flames out the chimney like an excited dragon. After dark this is a fun thing to watch. The finished pots are beautiful earth tones with ash drips. When we unload the kiln, after a week of cooling, there are hundreds of pots in the yard -- like a sea of brown. Every piece is completely different from any other;...
